Your right to deletion
Under UK GDPR Article 17, you have the right to request erasure of your personal data ("right to be forgotten"). We will honour this right in accordance with our legal obligations.
You can request deletion of your Ginkgo data at any time, for any reason.
How to request deletion
In the app (recommended)
- Open Ginkgo and go to Profile
- Tap Privacy & security
- Scroll to the Danger zone
- Tap Delete beside Delete account
- Read the confirmation screens carefully and confirm deletion
Your deletion request is processed immediately. Your account becomes inaccessible straight away, and we aim to delete your account and inventory data within 30 days, unless we need to keep certain information for legal, security, accounting, dispute-resolution, or regulatory reasons.
By email
If you cannot access your account, or prefer to request deletion by email, send a message to privacy@getginkgo.uk with:
- Subject line: Data deletion request
- The email address associated with your account
- Confirmation that you want all your data deleted
We may ask you to verify your identity before processing the request. We will confirm when the deletion is complete.
What gets deleted
When your account is deleted, we permanently erase:
- Your name and email address
- All items, locations, zones, containers, tags, notes, projects, reminders, and inventory data you have added
- Photos you have uploaded, including item, location, zone, profile, and project cover images stored in Ginkgo
- Your Ginkgo profile and authentication account
- Active app sessions associated with your account
What we may retain
We may retain limited data after account deletion where we have a legitimate legal basis to do so:
- Legal and regulatory obligations: Records required for tax, accounting, or legal compliance purposes, for the period required by law
- Anonymised analytics: Aggregated, anonymised usage data that cannot be linked to you is not considered personal data and is not deleted
- Fraud prevention: Where we have reasonable grounds to suspect fraudulent activity, we may retain limited records for the period necessary to investigate
- Support communications: Emails or messages you have sent to us may be retained where needed for legal, security, dispute-resolution, or customer support records
We do not retain your inventory content or photos beyond the deletion timeline under any circumstances.
Deletion timeline
Following a deletion request:
- Immediately: Your account is deactivated and you can no longer sign in
- Within 30 days: We aim to delete your account and inventory data from active systems, unless we need to keep certain information for legal, security, accounting, dispute-resolution, or regulatory reasons
- Within 90 days: Backup copies may remain before being overwritten or deleted
We will send a confirmation email when deletion is complete.
App store and Play Store deletion requests
Apple App Store and Google Play policies require apps with account creation to provide a way to request account and data deletion. Ginkgo meets this requirement through the in-app deletion process and the email request process described above.
If you downloaded Ginkgo from the App Store or Google Play and cannot access your account to delete it, please email privacy@getginkgo.uk and we will process your request manually.
