Editing and Updating Items
How to change an item's name, location, description, or photo.
Items in Ginkgo can be updated any time. When something moves, gets renamed, or you want to add more detail, here’s how.
Editing an item
- Find the item (by searching or browsing by location)
- Tap the item to open it
- Tap Edit (pencil icon)
- Make your changes
- Tap Save
What you can edit
- Name — The item’s display name
- Description — Additional details about the item
- Location — Where the item currently lives
- Photo — Add, change, or remove the photo
- Notes — Private notes visible to all household members
- Tags — Optional labels for grouping items
Moving an item to a new location
The most common edit is moving an item when it’s been relocated. You can do this quickly:
- Open the item
- Tap the location field
- Select the new location (or create one)
- Tap Save
Alternatively, when you’re in a location view, you can move an item directly to that location by tapping Move here on any item card.
Bulk editing
To update multiple items at once:
- Go to any location or search results
- Long-press an item to enter selection mode
- Select the items you want to edit
- Tap Move or Tag to update all selected items
Editing history
Ginkgo keeps a history of location changes for each item. You can see when an item was moved and by whom by opening the item and tapping History.
