Adding Items with a Photo
How to use Ginkgo's camera feature to add items quickly.
Adding an item with a photo is the fastest way to build your inventory. Ginkgo’s AI suggests the item name and description based on what it sees in the photo.
How to add an item with a photo
- Tap the + button on the home screen
- Select Take photo or Choose from library
- Take or select a clear photo of the item
- Ginkgo will analyse the photo and suggest:
- An item name
- A brief description
- Suggested tags
- Review and edit the suggestions if needed
- Choose a location
- Tap Save
Tips for better photo recognition
Show the whole item. A photo of the full object works better than a close-up of part of it.
Good lighting helps. In low light, recognition accuracy drops. Use natural light or turn on a light if needed.
Show any text or branding. If the item has a brand name, model number, or label visible in the photo, Ginkgo will use that to identify it more accurately.
One item per photo. Photos with multiple items are harder to analyse. Add items separately for better results.
What if the AI gets it wrong?
The AI suggestion is just a starting point — you’re in full control. If the suggested name is wrong or not specific enough, just edit it before saving.
The AI improves over time as we collect anonymised feedback on recognition accuracy (see Privacy settings if you want to opt out of this).
After adding
Your photo is stored securely and shown in the item view. If you need to update the photo later, open the item, tap Edit, and choose a new photo.
