How Photos Are Stored

Where your item photos go and how to manage them.

Photos you add to Ginkgo are stored securely in the cloud and accessible from any device where you’re signed in.

Photo storage

  • Photos are stored on our servers with encryption in transit and at rest
  • They are accessible only to you and your household members
  • They are not used for any purpose other than displaying in your inventory and improving AI recognition (see Privacy settings)

Photo quality and size

Ginkgo compresses photos slightly to reduce storage and loading times, while maintaining quality sufficient to identify the item. The original photo is not retained after compression.

If you need high-quality photos for insurance purposes, store them separately (e.g. in your phone’s camera roll) and use Ginkgo for the location and description information.
