Requesting Data Deletion
How to delete your Ginkgo account and all associated data.
You have the right to request deletion of your personal data at any time. Here’s how.
Deleting your account in the app
- Go to Settings > Account
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account
- Read the confirmation screen carefully — this action is permanent
- Enter your password to confirm
- Tap Delete my account
Your account becomes inaccessible straight away. We aim to delete your account and inventory data within 30 days, unless we need to keep certain information for legal, security, accounting, dispute-resolution, or regulatory reasons. Backup copies may remain for up to 90 days before being overwritten or deleted.
What happens to your data
- All personal information is deleted from our systems
- Photos are deleted as part of the account deletion process
- Inventory data is deleted as part of the account deletion process
- Anonymised usage analytics (which do not contain personal information) are not deleted
- Backup copies may remain for up to 90 days before being overwritten or deleted
Before you delete
Consider exporting your inventory first. Go to Settings > Data > Export inventory to download a copy as CSV or PDF.
If you’re a household member (not owner)
If you are a member of a household but not the owner, deleting your account will remove you from the household. The household inventory and other members will be unaffected.
If you are the household owner and you delete your account, the household will be transferred to another member if one exists, or deleted if you were the only member.
Submitting a deletion request by email
If you prefer, or if you cannot access your account, you can request deletion by emailing privacy@getginkgo.uk from the email address associated with your account. Include “Data deletion request” in the subject line.
We will process the request within 30 days and send confirmation when complete.
UK GDPR rights
This process fulfils your right to erasure under UK GDPR (Article 17). If you have concerns about how we handle deletion requests, you can also contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
