Can't Find an Item in Search
What to do when search isn't returning the item you're looking for.
If you can’t find an item using search, here are a few things to try.
Try a different search term
Ginkgo’s search matches on names, descriptions, tags, and notes. If an item was saved with a different name than you’re searching for, try:
- A more general term (“drill” instead of “cordless drill”)
- A description of what it looks like or does
- The brand or model name if you know it
- Where you think it might be (“something in the garage”)
Check if the item exists
It’s possible the item was never added to Ginkgo, or was added by a household member under a different name. Try browsing by location rather than searching:
- Go to Locations
- Browse through the rooms and storage areas where the item might be
- Look through the item lists manually
Check for inactive items
If the item was marked as inactive (rather than deleted), it won’t appear in normal search results. To search archived items:
- Go to Settings > Archived items
- Search or browse the list
The item might have been deleted
If a household member deleted an item, it cannot be recovered. You would need to add it again.
Search is working but giving irrelevant results
If search returns results but not the one you want, it may mean:
- The item exists but the name/description doesn’t match your search terms
- Try browsing by location instead to scan manually
Still can’t find it?
If you’re sure the item was added and can’t find it at all, contact us at hello@getginkgo.uk — there may be a sync issue we can investigate.
