Managing Household Permissions

Understanding and adjusting what household members can do in Ginkgo.

By default, all household members have the same level of access — they can view, add, edit, and delete items. Here’s how permissions work.

Default permissions

Every household member (including you) can:

  • View the full inventory and all locations
  • Search and ask questions
  • Add new items
  • Edit any item’s name, description, location, notes, and photos
  • Move items between locations
  • Delete items

Household owner permissions

As the household owner, you additionally can:

  • Invite and remove household members
  • Transfer household ownership to another member
  • Delete the entire household
  • Export inventory data

Changing individual member permissions

During early access, Ginkgo uses a single permission level for all household members. More granular permissions (e.g. view-only access, or preventing deletion) are on our roadmap.

If you need restricted access for a use case — for example, a letting agent who should be able to view but not edit — please email hello@getginkgo.uk and describe your situation. We can discuss options.

Activity history

You can see which household member made each change to an item by opening the item and tapping History. This shows:

  • What changed
  • Who made the change
  • When it was made

This is available for all item edits and location changes.
